POSTER / LEAFLET CONCEPT

THE SHOW

“In 10th-century Mercia, a disgraced Jester and a suicidal Eunuch are forced to live together in a crumbling court full of absurdity, corruption, and bawdy farce.”

A modern odd-couple, fish out of water comedy where two clashing personalities are thrown together, creating chaos, conflict and unlikely charm, surrounded by a cast of exaggerated characters. The show also serves as a timely satire of influencer culture and the ridiculousness of self-branding.

STORY SUMMARY

After a scandal in the royal court, the King’s favourite fool is banished from the capital Lundunwic and exiled to the remote northern settlement of Dribblesham; a dreary backwater ruled by the hapless, closeted Lord Edric and his scheming entourage.

Stripped of status and comfort, the Jester struggles to adapt to his bleak new surroundings and the lack of luxuries he’s used to. Sharing quarters with a bitter, humourless, castrated roommate only fuels his frustration until the spirited local Wench catches his eye.

As rumours spread of an impending Viking invasion, the Lord spirals into panic while the Wench’s innocent craft craze, “Lambubu’s,” becomes a full-blown fad thanks to the Jester’s overzealous promotion and the help of influencer culture.

When the flea-ridden craze sparks a mass outbreak, the townsfolk riot, and after a settlement-wide shaving, everyone is left bald, blotchy and scabby. When the Vikings finally arrive, they take one look at the town and flee in horror, convinced they’ve stumbled upon a colony of lepers , leaving only the miserable Reeve, the only one to not jump one the band wagon and therefore still hairy, to be whisked away by the baying soldiers.

With slapstick comes intelligent wordplay and sharply drawn characters, balancing bawdy farce with wit and heart.

A fast, filthy and outrageously absurd new stage comedy mixing Blackadder-style wit, Monty Python chaos and modern satire, exposing how little humanity has evolved since 931CE.

TONE / VISUAL STYLE

Blending the explicitness of The Inbetweeners, the wit of Blackadder II, the surreal chaos of Monty Python and the fearless satire of South Park, it grounds its madness in a Peep Show-style odd-couple dynamic, all delivered with the energy of a live Inside No. 9 episode.

Comedic language:

Mixes mock-medieval-Shakespearean speech with modern slang and stand-up rhythm, punchlines, wordplay and anachronistic references .

Fast, chaotic pacing; dialogue bounces like sketch-comedy, punctuated by silent beats or musical stings to reset scenes.

Visual Style:

Oversaturated medieval palette: velvets, furs, candles, wooden stocks, fake dirt .

Period costumes exaggerated for comic contrast — e.g., a “proto-suit-and-tie” Reeve beside a traditional jester.

Physical and visual comedy: pratfalls, flips, cartwheels, handstands, slapstick with real props ie turnips, wigs, bald caps.

Shifting staging through cinematic devices, lighting and musical cues

THE SHOW
CASTING

CASTING

CHARACTERS

The cast has been selected for their distinct comedic personas rather than traditional theatre backgrounds. Each performer drawn from stand-up and online comedy brings a unique energy and spontaneity to the roles that can’t easily be replicated by conventional stage casting.

COURTNEY_edited.jpg

JESTER - Courtney Ashton Todd

A loud, lightning-fast comedian with unbound energy.

Loves crowds, attention, applause, wordplay, physical gags, and sexual innuendoes

Revered by the Lord, adored by the Maiden and resented by the Eunuch, the jester tows the line between lovable rogue and irritating narcissist.

AL.png
BETH.png

EUNUCH - Al Nash

Depressive, bitter, pedantic, suicidal, unkept, pedantic, introverted, castrated; everything Jester isn't.

Despite outward contempt, he is deeply intelligent, secretly a brilliant inventor and craftsman with a workshop packed full of innovative projects and prototypes.

WENCH - Beth Fox

Lively, ADHD energy, pragmatic, working-class survivor. The social heartbeat of Dribblesham she's flirty but grounded, tough but warm.

A comic relief and emotional bridge between the opposing personalities of the Jester and Eunuch.

SAM.png

LORD EDRIC - Sam O'Leary

The narcissistic, closeted ruler of the crumbling court. Clueless about leadership and needlessly cruel to his family and citizens. He poorly hides an affair with his Reeve while publicly blustering through incompetence.

Vain, shallow, and dripping with denial. He’s a man more concerned with appearances and momentary bliss than his failing realm.

TOM.png

REEVE - Tom Lawrinson

A vicious sycophant motivated by greed and power, he is both lover and manipulator; shifting between doting partner and scolding parent in a twisted homo erotic dynamic that keeps the King firmly under his thumb.

A sly, ambitious, hubristic schemer, he's the villain you can’t help but love

HOLLY.png

LADY MORWEN - Holly Kellingray

Elegant, apathetic and sharp, she's the resentful wife of Lord Edric. Aware yet apathetic to the Lord's relationship with Reeve she conducts her own affairs with the Guards of Dribblesham.
